Bright Ideas Grants
Brunswick EMC originated the Bright Ideas grant program for K-12 teachers in 1994 and it was quickly adopted by other electric co-ops around the state. In 2014 all the co-ops celebrated the 20th anniversary of the statewide program that has provided $11.5 million dollars for about 11,000 creative teaching projects, benefiting more than 2.2 million students.
BEMC Bright Ideas grants can be as much as $2,000 and are awarded to teachers who develop creative teaching programs not funded within the usual school budget process.
Applications open in April each year with a deadline in mid-September. Awards are announced and checks presented to the winning teachers in November. Teachers can apply online at www.ncbrightideas.com To encourage early applications, all teachers who submit by the Early Bird Date are eligible to win a special prize, usually a VISA gift card. Five prizes are awarded across the state, plus BEMC awards an additional gift card just for our service area.
CEO, Don Hughes & Communications Supervisor, Heather Holbrook present over $33,000 in grant money to recipients.
