SUPPLY, NC, April 10, 2017 - - Forty projects were selected from a field of more than 70 applicants to receive funding for local programs from Brunswick Electric Membership Corporation’s  Community Grant program.  Grants totaling $37,950 go to projects to be implemented in both Brunswick and Columbus counties.

“This year’s recipients cover a broad spectrum of community programs,” says Don Hughes, BEMC’s CEO and General Manager. “With so many worthy projects to consider, the review process was a challenge. These grants will be used in our communities to help people of all ages; children and young families as well as those dealing with health issues, the homeless and of course, our senior citizens.”

Now in its 15th year, BEMC’s Community Grant program awards up to $2,500 to groups that provide family service programs, civic and community programs, cultural and arts programs, emergency services, and community development activities.  Since inception, the grants have helped numerous projects benefiting citizens throughout the BEMC service area. All funding is the direct result of items sold at the co-op’s equipment auction held at its annual membership meeting each September.

Hughes notes, “The Community Grant program is a very visible part of BEMC’s ongoing commitment to serving our community. It supplements our Bright Ideas educational grants for educators, the Warm Homes, Warm Hearts community heating assistance campaign and our support for many other community efforts and events.  BEMC Community Grants are another way the cooperative can extend a helping hand to community organizations that do great things.”
